Empowering Changemakers in Thailand

Social Value Thailand marked Valentine’s Day with a special announcement that will warm hearts across the Kingdom and beyond: it has become SVI’s newest Assurance Centre.

This means that our network in Thailand now directly offers the SVI Level 1 Social Value and Impact Management Exam. Level 1 is the first step in SVI’s three-tiered Professional Pathway, which confers the only internationally recognised professional qualifications in social value accounting and impact management. Initially, SV Thailand will offer the Level 1 exam in English only, but it also plans to offer it in Thai soon.

SV Thailand Director Sakulthip Keeratiphantawong, known as Beau, says, “Our goal in opening the Assurance Center now is to shape individuals and organizations towards a culture of accountability. We believe that supporting candidates along the Professional Pathway will empower changemakers and organizations with tools and methodology to increase the amount of positive impact they generate for their stakeholders.”

According to Beau, interest in the Professional Pathway is growing rapidly in Thailand. Already, some 20 candidates plan to sit the Level 1 Exam. And demand for accredited impact management and social value skills and practitioners is surging in Thailand.

“The growing, cross-sectoral interest in social value, SROI (social return on investment), and impact management in Thailand is driven by a range of factors. These include policy reforms, notably in support of social enterprises, and the adoption of social impact assessment by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation,” says Beau. “This has led to increased demand for social value training among universities, researchers, and corporations seeking to improve their CSR projects and demonstrate their contribution to the SDGs (the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals).”

About the Level 1 Exam

The Level 1 exam focuses on key concepts, the purpose of the SVI Framework and the eight Principles of Social Value. It is assessed through multiple choice, True/False or ‘fill in the gaps’ style questions and is split into six sections mirroring the modules of the popular Social Value and SROI Practitioner Training (accredited by SVI). It takes about 90 minutes to complete.

Candidates who successfully pass the Level 1 exam are awarded the status of ‘Social Value Associate’. This qualification demonstrates the holder’s understanding of how to apply The Principles of Social Value, their theoretical competence in social value and impact management, and their passion for changing the way the world accounts for value.

“This qualification is ideal for those involved in social or environmental impact analysis, managing non-financial impacts, and social impact reporting,” says SVI CEO Ben Carpenter. “It enables them to stand out in the rapidly growing field of social value and impact measurement and management (IMM) and evidence their skills to potential clients, employers, or partners.”

Candidates outside of countries that offer the exam locally (such as Thailand) can take it directly with SVI.
