Social Value Matters Europe

Social Value Matters Europe took place in Turin, Italy on the 24th and 25th October 2022. Delivered in partnership between Social Value International, Social Value Italia and Torino Social Impact, the conference brought over 100 social value practitioners together from across the world for 2 days of interaction, inspiring discussion, and action.

Social Value International’s Annual Social Value Matters conferences, shaped and delivered by the global community of members and wider networks in which Social Value International are connected, provide a combination of world-class thought-leadership content and highly interactive workshops to create the standards and practice that can help to create a more sustainable, equitable and positive future.

The 2022 conference, delivered in partnership between Social Value International, Social Value Italia and Torino Social Impact, was the first in person gathering of the global social value community since SVM2019 and provided an opportunity to reconnect as a network and community of practice, to share innovations and best practice, and to come together to agree on shared actions as we collectively work to achieve our mission - to change the way the world accounts for value.

The conference was held in Turin, Italy - the Social Impact Capital of Italy - at the UniCredit Building in the city centre; a space that was chosen for its open and engaging set up, to ensure collaboration and connection between all conference attendees.

Over the course of the two days, attendees participated in:

  • Plenary discussions exploring topics such as “Impact Evaluation”, “The new frontier of stakeholder engagement” and “How are we contributing to sustainable development”.

  • Interactive breakout sessions on topics including Wellbeing, Impact Investing, SVI’s new Principle; Be Responsive, and Assurance and Accreditation.

  • Workshops and discussions around accounting for value and embedding social impact.

Attendees also had lots of opportunity for networking and connection, as well as the opportunity to see more of Turin, with two fantastic site visits to local social impact projects and a delicious Conference Dinner of seasonal, local produce, at the Cascina Fossata restaurant.

Networking and collaboration was a huge part of SVM2022 because, as one of the conference attendees so rightly put it, “you cannot have systems change without deep relationships” as so taking the time to get to know one another, build relationships and trust, and share ideas was a central part of the conference.

From the SVI teams perspective, getting to know each and every conference attendee, learn about the amazing work that is being doing across Europe and the world, and develop deeper relationships with our global community was a real highlight of the conference - as Davide, President of Social Value Italia noted - “The conference ends, but the friendship remains”.

We thank Social Value Italia and Torino Social Impact, valuable partners in the organization of this event, the City of Turin and the Piedmont Region for sponsoring the event, and UniCredit, Compagnia di Sanpaolo, Chamber of Commerce and Fondazione CRT Sviluppo e Crescita for supporting it, and to our friends at Fondazione Cottino for their generous cooperation.

We also thank La casa di quartiere di San Salvario for the visit and Cascina Fossata also for the dinner; the staff of Unicredit University for their great professionalism and the forinitori: Ozanam, Carulli and Agenzia Uno. A big thank you also goes to all the speakers for their helpfulness and for the incredible content and insights brought to the conference.

And to all participants - thank you for your attendance (in some cases coming from very far away) and for your openness and collaboration.
