Breaking Language Barriers: The Level 1 Social Value Associate Exam Now Available in Indonesian

At Social Value International (SVI), we believe that language should never be a barrier to learning, contributing or growing within the global movement for social value. Today we are proud to share an important milestone: The Level 1 Social Value Associate Exam is now available in Indonesian.

“Practitioners can now engage with these ideas in their own language, in ways that feel clearer, more meaningful and more connected to local realities.”
— Citra Widuri

Why is this translation important?

For many years, practitioners across Indonesia (Indonesian-speaking) have faced challenges when accessing SVI resources. With most guidance, tools and exams provided in English, participation often required extra effort just to overcome the language barrier. As a result, local voices and perspectives were not always fully represented in the international conversation about social value.

By translating the Level 1 exam into Indonesian, practitioners can now engage with SVI’s Principles of Social Value in ways that feel clearer, more meaningful, and better connected to local realities. This step also creates stronger pathways for involvement in Indonesia’s policy environment, while linking practice directly to the internationally recognised SVI Professional Pathway.

A growing movement in Indonesia

The release of the Indonesian translation has already sparked momentum. Within days of its launch, at least 16 members expressed readiness to sit the exam, with five more associates preparing to renew their expired Level 1 status.

This milestone follows another achievement: Social Value Indonesia recently celebrated its first Level 3 Advanced Practitioner, a remarkable step that demonstrates the growing depth of professional expertise within the country.

Today, Social Value Indonesia has built a strong network of over 65 members, including academics, professionals, and activists. Together, they represent a diverse community committed to addressing Indonesia’s vast social and environmental challenges as the world’s largest archipelago. The translation of the Level 1 Associate exam further strengthens this ecosystem and demonstrates that the movement is heading in the right direction.

What is the Level 1: Social Value Associate exam?

The Level 1 Associate exam is the entry point to SVI’s Professional Pathway. It validates foundational knowledge of the Principles of Social Value and their application in practice. Sitting the exam provides formal certification, strengthening credibility in the fields of social value, impact management, and sustainability. Practitioners can not only engage with these ideas in their own language, but it opens the door to greater involvement in Indonesia’s policy environment.

The Level 1 Associate exam is more than just an assessment, it is an opportunity to join a global movement that values accountability, sustainability, and wellbeing. It opens the door for more Indonesians to strengthen their work, engage in policy discussions and connect with peers around the world. The translation into Indonesian was made possible by Dr. Ina Agustini Murwani, Purnomo, and Citra Widuri, a dedicated team of academics and practitioners who worked for nearly three months to ensure accuracy and contextual relevance for Indonesia.

Their efforts have produced a version of the exam that both reflects local realities and maintains alignment with SVI’s global standards.
