Jeremy Nicholls is a UK-based social accountant who co-founded Social Value International (SVI), the global network advancing the measurement and management of social value. He's best known as one of the principal architects of the SROI (Social Return on Investment) methodology, leading the development of A Guide to SROI (2009) commissioned by the UK Cabinet Office. A chartered accountant by training, he previously served as CEO of the SROI Network before its merger into SVI, and has advised governments, the OECD, and the UN on embedding social and environmental value into accounting and decision-making. His work centers on a single argument: what gets measured gets managed, so if we want a fairer economy, we need to account for outcomes that matter to people, not just financial returns.

The Accounting Paradox makes a powerful case: accounting standards quietly shape what markets reward - and that until we change how profit is defined, inequality, climate breakdown and nature loss will persist. Part detective story, part history and part manifesto, it argues that a relatively small shift in accounting practice - reflecting a wider public interest - could unlock significant systemic change. Since its release, The Accounting Paradox has hit Amazon bestseller lists in 13 countries, including the United States.
