New Guide Helps Arab Philanthropy Turn Climate Commitments Into Action
The Arab Philanthropy Commitment on Climate Change (APCCC) has launched an Implementation Guide, a regionally tailored framework designed to help philanthropic organizations across the Arab world translate climate commitments into concrete, measurable action.
The APCCC, hosted by the Arab Foundations Forum (AFF) in partnership with WINGS is currently the only regional climate commitment within the global #PhilanthropyForClimate movement. It was launched at COP29 in November 2024 and developed by a Working Group of 13 organizations from across the region.
Unlike global climate toolkits, the Implementation Guide is grounded in the region's operational realities including fragile contexts, humanitarian settings, and development-oriented philanthropy. Structured around seven core pillars, it offers adaptable pathways for organizations to integrate climate action into governance, programs, partnerships, and long-term strategy, regardless of their institutional starting point.
Working group members are already putting the guide into practice. Mercy Corps, for example, has embedded climate considerations across core outcome areas including food systems, water security, humanitarian response, and peacebuilding. Similarly, the King Hussein Foundation has operationalized climate action through its Community Resilience Model, integrating climate risk assessments and adaptation measures across programs.
