Global Goals Week 2025: A moment to renew commitment to the SDGs

At the end of September, the global community gathered virtually and in person for Global Goals Week, a dedicated period of action, awareness and accountability for the SDGs anchored in the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda.

Why it matters

With just a few years remaining until 2030, the SDGs remain both aspirational and urgent. According to official tracking, only around 18% of the goals are currently on track globally. Global Goals Week provides a key platform to revisit progress, spotlight gaps and mobilise partnerships across governments, business, civil society and communities.

The week aligned with the opening of the UN General Assembly and a host of high-level forums, reinforcing the message that the SDGs cannot be achieved in isolation but require collaboration, innovation, investment and commitment.

Themes and outcomes

During the week, actors worldwide shared stories of impact, engaged in peer-learning, and surfaced practical solutions for pressing issues: from inequality and climate change to health, education and governance. The focus was on accelerating action, bridging the gap between ambition and delivery, and building momentum to leave no one behind.

Looking ahead

As the global community reflects on this year’s Week, the message is clear: progress on the SDGs requires sustained drive. The coming years demand smarter allocation of resources, stronger partnerships, and meaningful engagement from all sectors. The week served as a reminder of the power of collective action to shape a more sustainable, just and resilient future.

Turning ambition into action: The SDG Impact Standards

To move from commitment to concrete results, the UNDP SDG Impact Standards offer a practical framework for embedding the SDGs into decision-making. Designed for enterprises, investors, and development finance institutions, the Standards help organisations align strategy, management, and reporting with the SDGs, ensuring that impact considerations are fully integrated into business and investment processes. By turning high-level goals into clear, actionable guidance, the SDG Impact Standards serve as a mechanism for credible action that connects purpose with performance.
